More favourable conditions on offer…

‘Busy week ahead with sixteen jump fixtures scheduled and more settled forecast after the extremes of January. The quality builds through the week and as the days gradually grow longer the first race times generally get later.

We start with a pair of seven race cards from Carlisle and Southwell both offering plenty of cut in the ground. Then onto Tuesday with Market Rasen and an interesting card at Taunton.

After losing both their fixtures to adverse weather in January; Ludlow race on Wednesday with a good prize money handicap chase as the feature. The course appears to be recovering well. The other meeting for the day is from Sedgefield.

Three meetings on Thursday. Two fairly modest fixtures from Doncaster and Ffos Las plus a good card from Huntingdon containing two valuable Listed contests. Back to two meetings on Friday with Bangor whose main race of the day is the North Wales National and at Kempton who host a decent prize handicap chase.

High class meetings on Saturday from Newbury and Warwick. Two Grade Two Chase races at Newbury with the Denman followed by the Game Spirit, then a big money handicap hurdle. The card is concluded with a Listed bumper. Over at Warwick another high value card featuring the Grade Two Kingmaker Chase and a Listed hurdle. The trio of Saturday jump meetings is completed with Uttoxeter.

Good prizes continue on Sunday throughout the card at Exeter with a pair of Listed races being the feature. We also have Chepstow who will expect the dry period leading up to their meeting will see some improvement in the ground after the testing conditions at the meeting early last week. In Ireland there is a Graded card at Navan worth noting.

With the Cheltenham Festival now clearly in view attention was on the many of the leading contenders appearing at Leopardstown’s Dublin Festival last weekend. Whilst it is always tremendous to see top class racehorses in action, from a betting perspective there was no real angle into the markets. The two days served to yet again reinforce how strong a hand the Irish, led by Willie Mullins, have to play over the coming months both in quality and numerically.
