A welcome change in conditions…

‘Last week the adverse weather claimed the majority of the scheduled fixtures in Britain. Just three meetings went ahead including the additional fixture at Ffos Las on Saturday. This week the forecast is a great and welcome improvement on what we have endured recently.

Ground conditions will continue to be a major factor as courses recover at varying rates. We start the week with a decent prize money card at Exeter who began the thawing process last Thursday. The ground is expected to be testing. One meeting again on Tuesday with Plumpton whose main attraction is a long distance Veterans’ Chase. A Monday afternoon inspection is scheduled.

Added fixture on Wednesday with Hereford joining Newbury as our two jumps meetings of the day. The feature at Newbury should they pass a Tuesday afternoon inspection is a Listed Mares’ Chase. Three meetings on Thursday from Ludlow, Newcastle and Wincanton. The latter stage the Somerset National which has attracted entries from a few of the accomplished distance handicappers.

We then go into three days of higher quality racing with ITV Racing coverage starting with Market Rasen and Windsor on Friday. The Rasen card includes a listed Bumper and a big money Veterans’ Chase which was originally set to be part of the abandoned Sandown card earlier in the month. Windsor commence the three day Berkshire Million programme with the feature being a Grade Two Novices’ Chase.

Three decent cards on Saturday. The main attraction at Ascot is the Grade One Clarence House plus a Grade Two Mares’ Hurdle. At Haydock we have the Peter Marsh along with a Grade Two Novices’ Hurdle and Taunton stage a valuable Seniors’ Handicap Hurdle. Then on Sunday we have a return to Windsor plus Fakenham. Good prize money at both. There is also an informative meeting at Navan.
